The exhibition includes almost all of the most well-known Chinese painters of the past 100 years.  It features paintings by China’s renowned painter Qi Baishi (1864-1957), one of the world’s ten cultural masters. Other artists include: Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), known as the "The No. One Artist of 500 Years” ; Fu Baoshi (1904-1965), one of whose paintings sold in auction last year for about $2.5 million; and Xu Beihong (1895-1953), the first Chairman of China’s Central Art Academy. Also displayed are many rare pieces painted by members of the royal family from China’s Qing Dynasty.

These Chinese artists employed the multitude of traditional brush work forms to pay tribute to the past but at the same time move forward in new directions. They also draw inspiration from heaven and earth, reflect the profoundness of nature, and express inner beauty. A master Chinese painting has spiritual resonance and artistic creativity which even transcends its exquisite appearance. This Exhibition not only promotes traditional Chinese art, but also reveals the sublime form of human expression. These selected paintings cover a wide range of subjects, reflect history and represent the highest level of traditional painting.

All paintings exhibited belong to Mr. Tony Dai, and his mother, Ms. Mei-Ling Dai. The Dai family has owned and cherished this collection of Chinese paintings for over four generations. Previously, only the Dai’s family and closest friends had the privilege to see the collection. Now this impressive collection is being opened to the public. After Ms. Dai migrated to Australia, Ms. Dai caught a very rare disease that attacked her immune system. While hopelessly confined to a hospital bed, she was introduced to the meditation practice Falun Gong. The practice quickly restored her health. The miraculous recovery led Dai family to realize the unpredictability of human life, and therefore, the urgency of fulfilling their wish to promote Chinese culture overseas. In the spirit of Falun Gong’s principles truthfulness, compassion and tolerance, they are sharing their valuable treasures with the public.

Since July 2004, the paintings have been displayed throughout Australia, Taiwan and the United States. Australian Prime Minister John Howard said, “This exhibition is an excellent opportunity to showcase the beauty and richness of traditional Chinese art and culture.” In Taiwan, the Dai’s held more than 20 exhibitions within 7 months time. These exhibitions were sponsored and supported by more than one thousand large companies and the government.
